canon digital rebel? or is that too much? any of the canon supershot G series are good.

Sony's Cybershot series has a nice range of prices from very affordable to very expensive. I have a mid-range much older model (2x megapixels) and it does 1600px x 1600px pics with great clarity

I suggest the kind that take pictures.

I guess that would depend on what you consider to tbe affordable or can convince someone, or even a "Santa," into buying for you.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is a good choice -- plus to can get cheap infrared remote if you wish to do self-portraiture.

A kit with a lens is around $1275-1300 @ B&H Photo.
There may be some sales or rebates.
Beware of cheaper deals as they may be gray market.

*Saraphim and =angie6969 recently started using a Rebel XT.
There's a long list of shooters here that use an XT.

If you don't want an SLR you could look at one of the Canon PowerShots.

I buy all my photography equipment at bhphotovideo.com. As for the camera you dont specify how much is "affordable" because. I'd recommend the Nikon Coolpix 4600 or 5600 for low end digital cameras, and the Canon Digital Rebel XT for mid-upper range and the best I'd say is the Canon 20D.

dpreview.com gives good reviews..Pansonic Lumix series is VERY good quality for under 600 dollars, 5-8mp, and a 12x optical zoom.

I'd like to recommend the Pentax Optio WPi it's a 6MP 3x Optical Zoom that's also weatherproof and waterproof down to 1.5m.
